About UsBenchmark – And, what’s in it for our clients Benchmark Inspection Service is a creation of mine (Mark J. Harger) after 30 years in the inspection business. That’s right not many can have or want to have that much longevity in a single career path, which is truly hard work, so one has to enjoy it. In 1978 I longed for something with a little less stress and a value added service I could provide that was rewarding and would enrich my quality of life more than what I was doing. To our clients this means experience – 30 years inspecting and over 15,000 properties Back then (1978) the well known organizations such as ASHI (American Society of Home Inspectors) on the east coast and CREIA (California Real Estate Inspector Association) on the west coast were just developing. Now there are many different associations in the industry. Accordingly, there were at that time no really structured schools or seminars for the industry, yet today there are many and some of which I have been a long time instructor for. To our clients we stay educated and Mark is a recognized instructor in the industry both locally and nationally I’ve worked performing inspection in Washington DC, Detroit, Atlanta, and Toronto and now in Las Vegas. In Las Vegas needless to say it grew from me doing one inspection a week to another multi-inspector firm here known then as Home Smart, Inc. where in 2001 Home Smart was sold to U.S. Inspect a national firm. At Benchmark, we know houses and buildings, what’s good and what goes wrong In 2001, after over 20 years in the industry I had the opportunity to sell the company through acquisition to a national firm and became for them an Area Manager. Over the course of the next 7 years I grew the Area I was responsible for to a company leading 67% growth in 2003. This then led to other awards and the eventual promotion to the position of Field Operations Manager for the Commercial Division of the company. Since I had considerable experience with commercial building inspections, it was a perfect fit. However, the road travels became very cumbersome not only on me but my family as well. Therefore in February of this year (2008) I retired from the company. I liken it to the words of Silvio of Soprano fame (aka: Steve van Zandt of E Street Band fame), when he repeatedly said “I tried to retire and get out, but it pulled me back in”. Could not stay retired, I miss helping buyer’s on a local level and we are at your service Since I missed the personal interaction with clients and giving back to the industry by teaching, it became the beginning of Benchmark Inspection Service and Benchmark Inspection Training.
